Methodology

Super Geo Kid is a family-oriented educational project aimed at introducing school-age children to world geography in a visual, simple and accessible way. The content of each country fact sheet is built on two complementary pillars: direct human experience and international statistical data.

1. Surveys of nationals

The first phase of our methodology involves surveying people born and raised in each country —who possess in-depth, lived knowledge of their culture, history, geography and society. The surveys gather two types of information:

  • What elements do the nationals themselves consider to be defining features of their country (art, nature, history, cuisine, notable figures, traditions, etc.)
  • Which aspects do they believe are best known abroad

This approach allows us to offer an authentic perspective that complements the statistical data: a human, diverse and relatable view, particularly suited to a young audience.

We would like to thank everyone who has taken part so far for their time and generosity: Iris (Philippines), Trang (Vietnam), Mate (Hungary), Eva (Czech Republic), Fotini (Greece), Guga (Brazil), Gil (Israel), Edyta (Poland), Marina (Russia), Elli (Germany), Luiza (Romania), Gareth (South Africa), Mariano (Argentina), Manuela (Italy), Scottie (New Zealand), Sebastián (Spain), Pedro (Portugal), Cone (Venezuela) y Amie (Canada).

2. Collection of statistical data

In a second phase, the numerical data for each fact sheet is obtained from leading international statistical sources, described in detail on our Sources page.

3. Selection of variables

The variables included in each fact sheet have been chosen on strictly educational grounds: to offer children —and their families— a simplified yet meaningful picture of each country.

Is it big or small? Is it densely populated? Does it have mountains? Is it rainy or dry? What is its level of development? These questions help build an initial understanding of the world that can be progressively enriched as the child grows older.

4. Educational adaptation

All the information has been selected, simplified and adapted for educational purposes, with the aim of making it easier for school-age children to understand without losing its essential meaning.

5. Images

All the illustrations in Super Geo Kid have been generated using artificial intelligence (Bing Image Creator). We support the use of this technology only when it results in a significant time saving or when there is no reasonable alternative. In our case, the number of illustrations required made manual creation unfeasible. We also consider that the illustrated style is more appealing and suitable for a young audience.

6. Typography

The typeface used on this website comes from SVG Icons and is licensed under CC BY 4.0. We thank the author for making it available free of charge.
